In 2009, osteopaths in private practice throughout the UK were invited to use a Standardised Data Collection (SDC) tool so the profession could profile day-to-day osteopathic practice. NCOR developed this tool in collaboration with practising osteopaths, to collect data about patients and osteopathic practice in a systematic and robust manner.
The information collected by the SDC project has proved to be tremendously valuable. It has enabled the profession to describe the variety of approaches in osteopathic clinical practice, and helped us understand what patients can expect when they seek osteopathic care. This information can be used to assist with marketing, for example while giving presentations to patient groups or healthcare commissioners.
